Product Description

In his senior year, Howard “Hopalong” Cassady led the 7-2 Buckeyes and was awarded the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award, and was named the AP Athlete of the Year. The year prior, the Bucks had gone 10-0 and were named consensus National Champions.

Cassady played for Ohio State from 1952-1955, and had earned the nickname “Hopalong” during his first game as a freshman for Ohio State. Columbus sportswriters who saw him play said he “hopped all over the field like the performing cowboy,” a reference to the ctional character Hopalong Cassidy. Cassady played halfback, but he also played defensive back, and a pass was never completed on him in his four years at OSU.
